Garvey works
By Ras Jon

Revised by African People of Love

If Marcus Garvey were here today,
What would he say?
What would he say about our works? That there, shall be no solution to this race problem until us ourselves, strike the blow for liberty.
If Marcus Garvey were here today,
Garvey would say; “Up you mighty race, accomplish what you will.”
Yet, he would tell you all that you have no roots or have not done anything.
Garvey sees so many waving the banner he said to wave.
Yet he would say you wave the flag, but what have you done for Mother Africa?
If Marcus Garvey were here today
Garvey would say, create businesses and work for yourselves
He would walk the streets and request we show him what we have done.

If Marcus Garvey were here today

Garvey would say where is your media?
And, why don’t you create your own black star line?
Garvey would say, why don’t you teach your kids about their great heritage? For the Black skin is not a badge of shame, but rather a glorious symbol of national greatness.

If Marcus Garvey were here today

And He saw the state of this mighty Afrikan/Black race, he would say:

“you’re all sleeping STAND UP!

If Marcus Garvey were here today

He would continue to say:

“Our success educationally, industrially and politically is based upon the protection of a nation founded by ourselves. And the nation can be nowhere else but in Africa.” We should have no desire to take all black people back to Africa; there are blacks who are no good here and will likewise be no good there.”

Africa for the Africans… at home and abroad!

If Marcus Garvey were here today

He would say, I like honesty and fair play, why are we killing ourselves?
Everyone is passing us by, why don’t we create for ourselves? For I know no national boundary where the Afrikan/Black is concerned. The whole world is our province until Africa is free. If we have no confidence in self, we are twice defeated in the race of life. Liberate our minds and ultimately we will liberate our bodies. Look to Africa, for there a king will be crowned. Men who are in earnest are not afraid of consequences.

There is no force like success, and that is why we must make all effort to surround ourselves throughout life with the evidence of it; as of the Afrikan/Black individual, so should it be of the Afrikan/Black nation. Remember, there shall be no solution to this race problem until we, ourselves, strike the blow for liberty, with confidence, you have won before you have started.

Marcus Garvey
